Lower Blepharoplasty
Also known as lower eyelid surgery, lower blepharoplasty is an operative procedure that rejuvenates the eyes. It is achieved through removal of excess skin and/or muscle and removal or repositioning of excess fat from the lower eyelids.
As with the face and neck lift the eyes can give away signs of aging that you might not want broadcast to the world. As we get older bags under the eyes can form as well as hooding of the upper eyelids, which can make us look tired. Many people will combine an eye bag removal with an eyelid removal, known as a quadrilateral blepharoplasty, to enhance the youthful effect.
Specifically, Eye bag surgery can treat:
- Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the eyelids
- Bags under the eyes
- Drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris

Procedure
The lower blepharoplasty at The Belvedere Clinic involves a small incision just below the eyelash line. Excess skin and fat is removed and the skin is straightened out to remove the wrinkles and drooping bag look.

5 days after your Blepharoplasty procedure you will be asked to return to the clinic to have your sutures removed. You will then be required to keep your steri-strips dry and in place for a further 5 days. You should avoid using cosmetics on the eyes for 10 days and contact lenses can be worn from about 10 days, depending on how painful it is to wear them. You are advised to wear sunglasses following your procedure and will be given an ointment to be applied to both eyes at night. 1. Will I have bruising after lower blepharoplasty?
Most patients experience some level of bruising and swelling after surgery. This can last several weeks, depending on the person. Many patients are presentable and return to work within one to two weeks.
2. Are there scars after lower blepharoplasty?
There can be scarring after any surgery involving an incision. However, through the transconjuctival approach, in which the majority of the surgery is done behind the eyelid, the scar is hidden. A Free Consultation with our plastic surgeon will be able to answer all your questions
3. When will I be able to see the results?
After the swelling and bruising has subsided, you will be able to see a definite difference. Because every individual is unique, this time period varies. Most improve within one to two weeks.
4. How many days do I need to take off work following my surgery?
The amount of work missed following surgery varies from patient to patient. The type of surgery performed will influence the length of recovery but different patients may heal at different rates following the same type of surgery. Certain occupations will permit returning to work sooner than other more visually or physically intensive occupations. Most out patient surgical procedures require patients to miss at least 3-4 days of work but some surgical procedures and patient occupations may require up to 7-10 days or more away from work. Our plastic surgeon will try to help you estimate how much work may be missed.
5. When can I exercise after my lower blepharoplasty?
Although you may feel ready to resume your normal physical activity within days after surgery, you should refrain from exercise for a week after surgery. During the second week after surgery, you can begin to engage in lighter exercises, avoiding prolonged aerobic workouts and heavy lifting. After three weeks, you should be able to safely resume any and all of your usual physical activities.
6. What other procedures can be combined with lower blepharoplasty?
A number of other aesthetic procedures are often combined with Lower eyelid surgery. These include Upper blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), brow lift, face & necklift and skin resurfacing.
